Oh, aren't they adorable



The Umber Skippers Poanes melane have always been the first butterflies to arrive in our gardens every spring.

And they did not disappoint this year.


I think they are so cute with their huge eyes and fuzzy antennae tips.

They are not at all camera shy, and seem to like to fly right in front of me to pose.


The Umber Skipper above is sipping on nectar from the flower head of one of our Verbena de la Mina plants.









Another one is unfurling their proboscis to sip from a Birds Eye Gilia blossom.
