Happy Earth Day!

Today was business as usual in the back field.

So much work to do, making room for more native plants.

And since the temperatures are warmer these days, more butterflies and bees are visiting.

In the photo above, a Gulf fritillary sunning itself in one of the numerous fennel patches in the yard.

We are saving some stands of fennel in the yard, especially the areas facing south and southwest.

The Anise swallowtails seem to favor the fennel growing in those areas, laying their eggs there throughout the day.

This little Fiery skipper is the second one I've seen this year.

It visited native plants that I planted last year in November and are thriving in the back field.
