Lovely Margarita Bop Penstemon

Aren't these lovely flowers?

Both of our Margarita Bop Penstemon Penstemon heterophyllus'Margarita BOP' plants are in full bloom, growing taller and fuller than they were last year. All that deadheading worked.

This California perennial hybrid was discovered by chance in the '80's at the Las Pilitas Nursery in Santa Margarita, California (Bop stands for "bottom of the porch", where it was found). It has better adaptability to clay soil and is longer blooming than other penstemon.

Look at the cute spots on these flowers.

Bees and butterflies love the pollen and nectar here.
