Hummingbird Salvia blossoms

Oh, look at this spike of blooming hummingbird sage Salvia spathacea .

This plant is growing in a large pot in on the patio.

Native to southern and central California, this sage spreads through underground rhizomes and is a favorite of hummingbirds for its nectar.

We keep it growing in the pot because we can't figure out yet where in the plant bed or front yard we would transplant it, especially since it looks like some of the shrubs I transplanted as seedlings are thriving, and space may be very limited.
