Chickadee acrobatics

Chickadee preparing for lift off from the obelisk rung

Today we observed for the first time a chestnut back chickadee feeding on the buds of a geranium plant. Because we were in the kitchen, watching through the window, it was hard to tell if the it was feeding on insects, or on the buds.

It was a wonderful sight to see, even if the view was partially obstructed by the white obelisk rungs!

And here is the chickadee hanging upside down, grabbing with its feet the thin geranium stalk.
