Gulf fritillary butterfly on ripening Mission fig
Now that the Mission figs are starting to ripen, there is all kind of activity going on in and around the tree. I was fortunate to observe the gulf fritillary butterfly while it was feeding on the nectar of a ripening fig, at the same time warming its wings in the warm September sun.
The canopy of the fig tree provides refreshing shade.
And look what's here... the Alameda County Agriculture bug bottle ! Now that the figs are ripening there are more flies to monitor in this tree.
While a red squirrel is snacking way up in the branches.
