Life in the backyard

While making my daily round of the backyard, I spotted an unusual vistor: a grasshopper perched on the edge of the stone in one of the birdbaths. It probably enjoyed the coolness and moisture of the moss on the stone.

I noticed that it sat there for at least 15 minutes. It certainly would have been a delicious meal for

any of the birds that frequent the birdbath. Maybe it was...

During this time of the year when a lot of vegetation dries up, it is always a treat to observe butterflies quietly fluttering through the air, landing here and there.

The cabbage moth in the photo above made a full round from the French lavender shrubs to the cosmos plants, on to lobelia blossoms, nasturtium leaves and back to the French lavender.
