if you can't afford organic produce..

September 20, 2014

there are some non-organic fruits and vegetables that are "safer" to eat. These either have very thick skin to protect the fruit inside or are not sprayed as heavily with pesticides because they don't attract as many pests as others. You should still wash some of them, except the ones with the very thick skin.

They are:

onions

pineapple

avocados

cabbage

sweet peas (because the pods protect the peas from the pesticides)

asparagus

mangoes

eggplant

kiwi

sweet potato

THE DIRTY DOZEN are fruits and vegetables that are heavily sprayed with pesticides:

apples

celery

sweet bell peppers

peaches

strawberries

nectarines

grapes

spinach

lettuce

cucumbers

blueberries

potatoes
